An inspiring and insightful documentary on one woman's life with AIDS in rural Appalachia. This is a film which documents the life and words of Belinda Mason who describes herself as "a small town journalist, a young mother, a reliable Tupperware party guest". Heartwarming and humorous, this film powerfully portrays the often overlooked issues rural AIDS and women with AIDS. Belinda served on the President's National Commission on AIDS and has much to say in this film. (1992 Appalshop; 29 minutes).

What does it mean to be transformed? For nearly 50 years, your gifts to the One Great Hour of Sharing offering came to the Presiding Bishop's Fund for World Relief, which has assisted in the physical and spiritual transformation of people in need throughout the world. In this video, three annual "One Great Hour of Sharing" videos have been combined into one tape. The videos include: "Dare to Share" (1996); "Open Wide Your Hearts" (1997); and "Fabric of Faith" (1995).

The Episcopal Raido-TV Foundation, Inc and Bill Moyers of Public Affairs Television, Inc. have co-produced a two-part series as part of the on-going PBS series "Listening to America with Bill Moyers". 

OJ - 22 The Healing River

OJ - 09 Here Am I, Send Me: The Journey of Jonathon Daniels

In the spring of 1965, Jonathan Myrick Daniels, a 26-year-old student at an Episcopal seminary, became one of many young Americans who answered the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s call to help register African-American voters in Alabama. By the following August, Daniels was dead - shot by a sheriff's deputy. His last act was pulling a young black woman out of the line of fire. "Here Am I, Send Me: The Journey of Jonathan Daniels" is an outstanding and inspiring new documentary narrated by acclaimed actor Sam Waterston. Scripted largely in Daniel's own written words, it features stirring television footage and interviews with leaders from the civil rights era.

OJ-10- WHERE ARE THE BEANS? (13 min.)
In 1993 Linda Shelly Visited La Esperanza, Honduras, Where she had lived for several years on an MCC assignment. Even though her Honduran farmer friends had a good bean harvest that year, they did not have enough beans to feed their families. Linda began to ask her friends, "Where are the beans?"

OJ - 23 - SCHOOL OF ASSASSINS 18 minutes

Narrated by Susan Sarandon

Using rarely-seen footage, the program shows how officers who studied at the school are responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of people - including Archbishop Romero of El Salvador. The camera reveals the hidden world of the School of the Americas, and the work of church people, activists and members of Congress to close it down.

OJ - 16 - ROSES IN DECEMBER (55 min.)

On December 2, 1980, lay missioner Jean Donavan and three American nuns were brutally murdered by members of El Salvador's security force. With compassion and sensitivity, the video chronicles Jean's brief life from her affluent childhood in Connecticut to her decision to volunteer with the Maryknolls in El Salvador to her tragic death. It is an eloquent memorial to her commitment and a powerful indictment of U.S. foreign policy in Central America.

In the beginning of "We are all Called," a missionary in Africa speaks of how sure she is that "This is where God wants me to be." How would you interpret the statement, often made in Church and represented in this video, that we constitute "one family in Christ?" Do you believe this? Have you ever felt it? Has your parish been engaged in any of the mission activities described in this video?

A meeting of Diocesan Racism Commissions. This is an edited version of a satellite teleconference which linked sites all over the Episcopal Church in order for Episcopalians on Racism Commissions to discuss projects, issues and progress in their prospective areas. 1993 - 70 minutes.

OJ - 12 - ECLIPSE OF REASON (15 min.)

Uses new film technology to show a late abortion. The National Organization of Episcopalians for Life sent copies to diocesan bishops with the note: "A powerful video...straightforward and scientific...(about) the humanity of the child in utero, the legality of that child's destruction...and the need to protect this most vulnerable of human beings...A difficult viewing experience.....needs to be seen..."

Highlights from the ordination and consecration of Barbara C. Harris as the first woman bishop in the Anglican Communion. Includes a short biography of the new Suffragan of Massachusetts and provides background material, including historical data and a frank discussion of the controversy surrounding this historic event.

OJ - 19 - MORE THAN A PAYCHECK (14 min.)

Produced by the Diocese of Michigan Economic Justice Implementation Committee, this tape explores the ways in which congregations can be involved in the Economic Justice work of the Episcopal Church. This is an exciting introduction to the Episcopal Church's ministry in Economic Justice.

AGING

OJ - 11 - (IN)DIGNITY OF AGING, THE

Capsule version of a three-hour satellite teleconference on aging. Challenges churches and individuals to become more aware of the ministry of the older persons. Bishop Mark made a presentation entitled, "A Ministry of Compassion." A study guide is available.

DRUG/ALCOHOL/RECOVERY

MOYERS ON ADDICTION – CLOSE TO HOME 5 cassettes

OJ – 01 – Portrait of Addiction 60 minutes

In the program nine men and women – all recovering from drug and/or alcohol addiction tell their stories. This candid testimony from people who have been there leaves little doubt that addiction can happen to anyone and so can recovery.

OJ – 02 – The Hijacked Brain 60 minutes

Aided by powerful new diagnostic tools, scientists are making dramatic discoveries about how addiction affects the brain. In this program, Moyers goes into the laboratory to follow researchers engaged in charting an "image of desire in the brain".

OJ - 03 - The Politics of Addiction 60 minutes

The story of how our society meets the challenge of translating what scientists, doctors, counselors, and recovering addicts have learned into rational public policy is complex and sometimes contradictory.. This video looks at Arizona’s recent struggle to find an alternative to current policies and in Washington, members of Congress, doctors and policy activists join in a movement with recovering people that is pushing for new public policy.

OJ -04 - Changing Lives 90 minutes

While addiction may cause similar changes in the brains of different people, recovery is a very individual solution. Changing behavior is the aim of treatment, but no single treatment program will work for all addicts. The program visits several treatment programs and interviews recovering addicts.

OJ - 05 - The Next Generation 60 minutes

Experts are increasingly focusing on prevention efforts based on community and family. This documentary looks at two of those efforts. One works with parents addicted to heroin by teaching them how to repair the damage to family wrought by drug abuse, and in spite of it, how to raise strong, resilient children. The second program explores kids at risk of becoming drug addicts and offers immediate counseling for those who already involved with drugs. Nicotine addiction is also addressed by this program.
