God makes us one. God's gracious initiative in Christ
brings Shalom and wholeness. Jesus prayed for our unity (John 17:21).
The apostle Paul urged it in many of his letters to the churches.
We are determined to be faithful! Brokenness and sin remain our human
condition. So unity is both a gift and a task. We work to realize
unity within our community of 44 church bodies. (from the 1996 report
to the Diocesan Convention)
In mission partnership, the Council's activities
include:
- strong advocacy and citizen education for a just
and humane society
- pastoral care for persons in state facilities
- workplace ministry with truckers and truck stop
employees and seasonal farm workers
- witness and loving service among those at leisure
- arenas where church leaders reflect, vision, speak,
and work together
- resources and continuing education events for
pastors and others
- networking and support for church body and ecumenical
agency leaders
- encouragement of lonely prophets who work to build
up the unity God gives.
