Episcopal House - Housing for the Elderly

Mission Statement:

Our purpose is to provide housing for the elderly in a Christian atmosphere of concern, to create an environment in which elderly residents can live independently with dignity, and to maintain an atmosphere of peace and blessing.

Description:

Episcopal House, located at 1440 Walnut Street, Allentown, is a 210-unit, 20 story apartment complex, completed in 1968, for low and middle income citizens, 62 years of age and older, of all races, creeds and nationalities. It is operated by a Board of Directors approved by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Episcopal Housing of the Lehigh Valley, Inc., a non-profit corporation.

Applicants' incomes must fall within limits established by HUD. Our non-profit and tax-free status, as well as a low interest rate enable us to offer low monthly rents in both studio and 2 room apartments. While there are about 250 people on the waiting list, the facility only has room to accept about 30 a year.

Episcopal House has a restaurant, which is open to the public, a beauty shop, chapel, activity rooms, laundry room, library, resident association, resident activities, billiards and a utility room on each floor.
