| Youth Scholarships |
In recent years we all have witnessed the economic hardships effecting our country, our diocese and our families. The youth of the diocese have not escaped the brunt of this "downturn". In an effort to maintain an open door policy, one where we never turn a participant away due to their inability to pay, we have kept a scholarship fund open for youth events. With the demand for scholarships rising we have had a large drain on our scholarship funds on the diocesan level. In one year an individual youth if he or she participates in all of the events the expense can be more than $800 depending on the location of the mission trip or national youth event.
In the 2009-2010 academic year the cost of events was as follows:
Happening $125.00
Bishop's Day with Youth $25.00
Christophany $75.00
Middle School Mission Trip $180.00
Total cost for High School Participants in All Events - $225.00
Total cost for Middle School Participants in All Events - $280.00
In the 2010-2011 academic year the cost of events is/was as follows:
Happening $125.00
Bishop's Day with youth $30.00
Christophany $100.00
EYE $535.00
Total cost for High School Participants in Al Events-$668.00
Total cost for Middle School Participants in All Events-$130.00
Anticipated costs for the 2011-2012 academic year will be as follows
Happening $125.00
Bishops Day with Youth $25.00
Christophany $100.00
Senior High MIssion Trip $600.00
Estimated cost for High School Participation $850.00
Estimated cost for Middle School Participation $125.00
We do ask parishes to support youth in anyway possible, but not all parishes have this kind of discretionary funding available. We therefore continue to ask individuals and leaders in the diocese to support youth ministry by donating to our scholarship funds. Every little bit helps us to maintain our ministry and make sure that anyone who wants to participate in weekends can do so.

Senior High Missioners Rebuild in New Orleans
[By Kimberly Rowles] Our encore performance as missioners in the Diocese of Louisiana ran from July 25 through August 1. In roughly 80-90% humidity and heat, 25 missioners from the Diocese of Bethlehem sheet-rocked, machete-d and painted their way around the Gentilly area of New Orleans. Twenty youth from ten congregations from all over the Diocese put their sweat and tears into the Louisiana homes, churches and community meeting spaces where we did the work of Christ.
