| Some readings lend
themselves well to visuals; this is particularly true for The Way of
the Cross. Children and adults work together in advance to prepare
frozen tableaus for each station. Give permission to exaggerate expressions
and they will become a collection of living pictures that can now be shared
with the congregation.
During the service the congregation is invited to open and close their eyes at the sound of a bell. They keep their eyes closed during the reading of the mediations for each station while the players move into place. When the bell is run again, they open their eyes and see each “living picture.” After six seconds, the bell is rung again, which signals the congregation to once again close their eyes, and the reader continues until reaching the next visual point in the story. Presenting frozen tableaus requires advance preparation. The readings can be selected from The Book of Occasional Services or those provided by Leader Resources. |
